| Sex Show by S.M.U.T. Artists (Sex Makes Us Tick) at Kinga Gallery until October 7 Speaking of beavers, you needn't hold onto your hats at Kinga Gallery. Maybe your shorts. We walk into this exhibit through a seven-foot pink vinyl yoni, and are confronted with a naked, fully erect wet and watering sense of humour and pleasure. This work cries out "Eat me!" Lick. Slurp. Mmm. What food these mortals be! Organized by Darcy Schmidt, this group (or grope) show of "e-raw-tica" is a refreshing change from the overly serious bill of fare offered by art galleries. From the piggy suggestions of Louis Joncas' photos to the hilarious pop-up gay porn by Darcy Schmidt, to the ironic series "Fucking the angry Buddhist" by Diane Woodward, and passing by all other artists, we traipse through a dick and pussy field of fun. Some works are a little hasty, some are more engaging and mature, some are serious. Mostly, it's tongue on crotch. I mean tongue-in-ear. No. It's tongue-in-cheek. All participants in this visual orgy are local artists. Kinga Gallery is a Sandy Hill hole in the wall (My aching loins). We applaud you, Kinga and Darcy, for venturing where few commercial galleries have dared to go. |
