| Darcy Schmidt's paintings in acrylic on
canvas, Fishtychs, continues for the month of April at
Artguise. Although goldfish are the subject, 'the form and (its) representation is disintegrated," says Brandon McVittie, co-owner of Artguise. "That means that they're recognizable but their colour, the texture and the body of the medium, is very luminous. They're meaty paintings." Meaty??? "When you use scads of paint you can see it as "meaty". His pieces are textural abstractions with very vivid colour. He uses a lot of transparent layering of glazes. The quality of the pieces os very luminous and glassy - almost like water," explains McVittie. Fishtychs will mark Schmidt's artistic adieu to Ottawa before departing for, as yet, an unknown destination. |
