| Plenty of
bondage, not much black tie A full house of at least 300 enthusiastic characters in dizzying costumes filled the Arts Court theatre Friday night for SAW Gallery's fourth annual Black Tie 2 Bondage IV fund-raising fashion show. The audience whooped and hollered as at least 80 outfits, designed by 30 contributors, including artists, dancers, musicians and fashion designers, were trotted down the runway. Forget the black tie. This stuff was most wearable, or unwearable art made from plastic, car parts, rubber, wire, leather, chains and almost any other material you can think of. SAW's director Laura Margita, all gussied up in plunging red velvet and homemade fluffy boots, acted as the "come hither" em-cee while artist Geoff Derry, a SAW Gallery board member and event chairman, saved his outlandish show outfit for the end. The fashion show, which organizers hoped would bring in at least $10,000, was co-ordinated and directed by a frazzled-looking Darcy Schmidt. "This show is a chance to go crazy," laughed contributing clothing designer Karen Friis, showing off her bare midriff.
